The bridge itself provides a perfect opportunity to photograph the Nile from above while taking shots of the foaming water, the mist rising from it again gives the atmosphere of otherworldliness.
Photography Tips: Depending on the light it’s better to take a picture during the golden hour, in the morning or before sunset. Shoot the scene with wide-angle lens and try using rather long exposure time to get the most surreal look of water.
Wildlife and Bird watching at Karuma Bridge
It is near the Karuma Falls Bridge, and this area is well populated by animals and birds, thus making it a great place for that hobbyist. The thick growth of vegetation and location to the river makes the area host various birds and animals. Crook necked and long necked Cormorants, Fish Eagles, and the picturesque Malachite Kingfisher among others may be seen along the water’s edge.
There are also other small wildlife including the monkeys, notably the olive baboons, Vervet monkeys that are normally easily sighted 20-30 meters away from the river banks playing, foraging among other activities. Some of the other animals often seen around the shores of the Nile include elephants, buffaloes and antelopes more especially as you approach Murchison Falls National Park which lies further down the water.
Birdwatching Tip: You should carry along with you binoculars and maybe a bird guide book, just in case you are lucky to encounter different species of birds. Wildlife is most active in the early morning and so this is the best time to spot the wildlife.
Wildlife Safety: Do not approach any wild animal too closely and do not attempt to feed or interact with these animals.
