Rhino Sanctuary Uganda : Uganda also knowns as “the Pearl of Africa” due to captivating wildlife and vegetation. One of the most popular sights of wildlife in the country is the ability to watch the behavior possibly, even the body of a critically endangered rhinoceros. Due to conservation efforts by different individuals, rhinos have slowly been reintroduced in to Uganda through conservation areas such as Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. In the past, rhinos thrived in Uganda’s wilderness, with two main species; the white rhinoceros and the black rhinoceros. The two animals were formally deregulated from Uganda’s wild ecosystem by early 1980s mainly due to civil unrest in the country whereby poaching for their horns was rife. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is one of the most famous Rhino conservation areas in Uganda. This 70 square kilometer reserve established near a town of Nakasongola roughly 176kilometers north of Uganda’s capital Kampala is an approximate vital habitat for the successful attempts of the reintroduction of rhinoceros. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a blend of the Rhino Fund Uganda, Uganda Wildlife Authority and individuals’ parcel of land owners in Uganda which was commenced in the year 2005.
Southern white rhinos are in excess of 30 in number at the sanctuary, breeding such animals in secure environments serves the purpose of multiplying the endangered species. The idea is to rehabilitate a population that can be released into natural eco-systems in Uganda such as the national parks.
